Our first time painting a mural (under new management), and what a wonderful learning experience this was for us! We asked our predecessors for advice on what materials to use and how to go about painting on a wall instead of a canvas. While the cinder block texture is definitely a rougher surface to paint on, getting to use a black Posca pen for the outline helped us save time making straight edges instead of using a paintbrush.

We loved painting the bright, contrasting red and blue colors of the Westlawn logo. Finishing the mural with a layer of satin varnish was truly the cherry on top. After 10 hours of work (excluding time to discuss and create design ideas), it was super satisfying to take a step back and admire our work.

A special thank you to Principal Hill for supporting our vision and collaborating with us on our very first mural. We are also incredibly grateful to the janitorial staff for letting us stay at the school late, right up until the end of their shift. We hope the Westlawn community loves this piece as much as we do, and we can't wait to see where this journey takes us next!
